Question: I want my little girl to be GOOD at something – what can I start her on?

OK I always regret that my parents never pushed me to get a talent or hobby or skill or something. I am a jack of all trades but not really GOOD at anything. Now my little girl is 3. She is just a regular toddler – she does talk very well for her age apparently and tells good stories etc. Well I wanted her to learn something. Like piano or something. I do not have much money though. What would you suggest?

A lot of these famous people like tiger woods, the williams sisters etc started training when they were like 3 or 4 years old. I do not want her to be a superstar but I want her to be able to be proud that she has a talent.

I know talent is sometimes just a natural gift but I think in many cases talent can DEVELOP from putting time and effort into something. Not forcing but just encouraging her.
Thanks for all the answers. I will not choose a best answer because there were many thoughtful responses.

Answer: Ask her about what she’s interested in. If she’s a good story-teller, nurture it and help her get better at it. Don’t force her into things she’s not interested in. There would be no point in learning if she doesn’t enjoy it. Just help her get her way through school so that when she gets older, she’ll know how to do her job when she gets older. As she gets older, ask her things about how was school. You might learn something about her that she likes.

Question: What exactly is a triumph bobber?

I have become obsessed with vintage triumphs and am researching a purchase of my own triumph. Is there anyone who could point me in the right direction? Is there a popular triumph vintage custom magazine or book that anyone knows is useful. Also, what exactly is a true bobber. I would like to make a custom bike my own hobby. I am a tig welder, and work in a motorcycles fabrication shop so i will have access to most means of manufacturing. Our shop dosent deal with vintage bikes, just luxuryish bikes, goldwings and such, ugh. Neverless i can still use benders polishers welders lathe mill etc.

Answer: Bobber term- from old days 1970s with club: stock frame, shortened back fender, no front fender, usually shorty muffler or straight pipes with fishtail, small gas tank- either peanut tank or triumph cub tank from 250, drag bars, solo seat with pad. Basicly stripped bike with only enough road equipment to be street licensable. A trail sprocket on back would reduce top speed from 110 to 85/90 but acceleration greatly improved. Battery sometimes eliminated. My BSA chopper has extended front and rake so would not be a ‘bobber’. BMW/2 after getting from police pound was called bobber as parts to get it on road came various parts piles- as R51 front end ,peanut tank and solo seat, shorty mufflers. took a couple years of vintage swap meets to get stock seat, tank, mufflers, lights, etc to be considered restored. o

Question: What your opinion on Ebay’s recent price hike?

The recent price hikes are designed to root out the new comers and strengthen those who are established. In effect they are turning the site from a car-boot sale into a shopping centre making it so that the hobby seller and everyday-joe can only effectively use the site as buyers? Has the internet lost its one and only on-line pawn-shop, or is the change a good one with legitimate business taking the helm?

Answer: If you look at the new fees, very little is changing for auction listings, which I assume is what your question is based on.

Insertion fees remain as they are now, the gallery upgrade will no longer be charged for (so saving 15p a throw) and the final value fee on most items is going up slightly (the FVF on an item selling for £10 will be 12.5p more than it is at the moment).

The real ‘killer’ for the little guy will be the new ‘best match’ default search – which really does favour business sellers – not the upcoming price change.

Question: Tell about the laying of foot paths deep into jungles and forests in West Europe and US to watch the wiId.?

Like the philosophers of the East the poets and philosophers of the West too realized and emphasised the spiritual and aesthetic importance of watching Wild Nature. It is really great that governmental or other agencies in West encourage long dialogues with Wild Nature by laying concrete or tarred foot paths in jungles and forests. Are such jungle paths closed curves so that the walker with out any searching reaches back to his destination after enjoying beauties of nature from morning to evening? Such hobbies are necessary in all countries to enable urban folks to escape the smog pollution and sound pollution in the concrete jungles of towns for a few hours and to inhale pure oxygen -nitrogen mixture to his hearts content (or lungs content).

Answer: I think you must be speaking of nature trails. They have been constructed in parks of all kinds and these paths allow humanity to easily enjoy the wild places that still exist. Hiking for miles and struggling through rough terrain are no longer needed to be surrounded by Nature’s beauty. Most modern nature trails are made solely for the goal of getting close to nature, yet some romantically follow the utilitarian trails of days gone by.

Another feature seen across America is the scenic turnout or overlook, usually described succinctly as a “point of interest”. They are short stretches of parking along a major thoroughfare where one may park their vehicle, revive cramped legs, take in the scene, snap pictures and maybe grab a cold drink out of the cooler. Ah, the convenience of modern living!
