Question: Which Muay Thai camp?

Hi I’m 35 yrs old, I’ve done a little Krav maga a few years ago, currently I’m inactive – though not overweight and I’m medically fit. I have the opportunity and time to go to Thailand for 3 months and learn mt. I’m not aiming to be a pro, but I would like to get fit, learn the sport to a reasonable standard and then continue it as a 2x weekly hobby in the UK.

I want to make the best of my time in Thailand, can anyone recommend a good camp? I’ve been looking into Horizon mt on Koh Phangan (they welcome beginners and the island looks a bit more laid back than the other tourist centres) and would welcome any advice. I’m starting from quite a low base, so maybe a more touristy camp might be better??

Anyway, still open minded about the whole thing, any advice greatly appreciated!

Answer: If you are looking for a really good gym, I’ve heard many great things about the Phuket camp in Thailand. My instructor loves to go and train there and has nothing but solid reviews of it. I would suggest getting a private trainer; I believe they have them there for like 25-30 bucks a week. That’s a GREAT deal for a master of Muay Thai to work one on one with you.

I’ve heard that the private instructors really work to your level, but I can’t say if that goes to beginners. I would suggest doing some research on their website, http://www.tigermuaythai.com/. Most people don’t go straight to a thai camp to start learning; I admire your enthusiasm. Best of luck to you and enjoy the beauty that is Thailand!

We live well here, but I prefer the city, I think there are more things to do.

Question: Is volunteer work really ‘work’?

A man is sueing me after I was involved in a car accident with him, he is sueing me on some inability to work or something, only the thing is he is only a volunteer, its not like he needs it to pay the bills or anything.

So I was driving home after a long night out, we were all still pretty pumped from the nights activities. It was early in the morning, around 8am, driving down a quiet suburban street, when this maniac stepped out in front of us with a stop sign, he was all dressed in bright colors, yellow and orange.

Needless to say he scared the hell out of us, I tried to go around him but there was another one on the other side too, we ended up skidding into him, he was pretty slow on his feet, they should really have younger people doing it.

Turns out he was a crossing guard for a school, I didnt even realise it was a school day! They should give you more notice before they step out in front of you like that.

Is volunteer work actual work? or a passtime?

Answer: It’s only work in the sense of when you do it, it makes you tired just like work does. But he can’t sue you and get money for missing work, because volunteer’s aren’t paid. Maybe you should try to sue him for causing damage to your car by just stepping out like that. Everyone knows you don’t just walk out in front of cars.
