- you get to spend time online
- you get to interact with people who have the same interest as you (at least at some point in time)
- you get to find out who is selling what and where
- you get to learn about what sell right now and what not
- you get to recycle things you have
- you will be happy knowing that someone else is benefiting from your stuff (so you will not just be throwing them away)
- you get to provide others with things that they need and may not be able to get elsewhere
- you get to sell handmade stuff one piece at a time

Besides, selling on eBay can be viewed as a business if you start to do it more seriously. You can get tax deductions and you will learn the process of starting a business at the same time. You can try eBaying to see if it is something that you can like as a hobby. If not, then there are plenty of other hobbies you can choose from.
