Question: What are some of your thoughts on the new Apple commercials?
I’m writing an essay of analysis on Popular Culture and I was thinking of writing something about Apple’s new Mac Ad Campaign. Where there’s two men one’s a “PC” and the other is a “Mac”. If you don’t really know what I’m talking about then here’s a link… http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/
So my questions are:
Do you think these are a good way to catch your attention? Why or why not? (style, dialogue, etc)
Do these commericals make you want to buy a Mac or even consider it?
Do these commericals touch on some of your hobbies or whatnot? How so?
Anything you can provide me about these commericals would be great!!! (Opinions, Experience with a Mac, etc)
Thanks!!!
(I will pick a best answer… btw)
Answer: I’ve seen the commercials and they did not influence my buying decision. By the time those commercials appeared (and as I remember it was at the time of a huge Mac store inauguration in New York) I’d already made up my mind about buying an iBook, no matter the cost.
I think the commercials do a great job in portraying the PC spirit as that dull, office type guy. However, I don’t identify with the Macintosh personna. I mean, I am a huge fanatic of Mac (I own two ipods and an iBook for which I paid more than 2200$) yet I do not go around dressed in leather jackets or in Jeans, and on rare occasions I go more than two days without shaving.
To summarise, I think the Mac personna is a big stereotype, and I don’t identify with it. It’s like one of those theatrical plays when you feel a character is being overrepresented or overacted.
On the other hand, I think that advertising does a wonderful job in disseminating the advantages of the Mac platform, like the rarity of viruses and the advantages of not having to reboot Macs frequently (as opposed to PCs). These attributes are not very widely known and it was time they were advertised to the general population.

Greenhouses – A Hot And Steamy Valentine Gift!
If you’re looking for something really hot and steamy to give to your Valentine this year, look no further than a greenhouse! While this may not be a very traditional Valentine’s Day gift, that’s part of the appeal. For anyone who enjoys gardening, getting a green house is a dream come true. Plus, it’s such a humorous and unconventional gift, that your Valentine is sure to be surprised and pleased. In this article, we will explore some of the ins and outs of greenhouse shopping for your Valentine.
When shopping for a greenhouse as a gift, the first consideration should always be size. Greenhouse kits come in as many sizes and styles as the varieties of plants we grow inside them, and you’ll want to pick something the recipient will want. Consider the recipient’s home. Do they have a large backyard with plenty of room to devote to gardening? If the person you’re shopping for is your spouse, then you probably already have a good idea of how much space can be devoted to a greenhouse. Backyard hobby greenhouses can range in size from a small 6 foot by 4 foot walk-in to a very large 8 foot by 20 foot long unit that could be used by a small commercial grower.
Perhaps your Valentine lives in a home with a small backyard, or maybe they have no grass at all. When the recipient has very little outdoor space to commit, a smaller portable greenhouse kit might be a better option. Portable units are typically designed for temporary use, meaning they can be set up and used for a few months as needed, and then easily disassembled or collapsed and stored during the off season. Many portable greenhouses are ideally sized to fit on a small deck or patio, which can be great for townhome dwellers who don’t have any green space they can call their own. Some other portable units can be quite large and well suited for backyard use. These are a great option for someone who might enjoy a larger green house, but who may not want to commit to a permanent year-round structure in their backyard.
What do you do if your Valentine doesn’t have any outdoor space at all? For many apartment and condo dwellers, the idea of outdoor space sufficient to accommodate a greenhouse is merely a dream. For these folks, a mini indoor greenhouse is the answer. Aside from being very economical to purchase, mini greenhouses are also a practical choice to give as a gift, because they require such a small commitment of space. Mini units can be small enough to only occupy an end table or small shelf, while other indoor greenhouses are freestanding, featuring multiple shelves. Depending on where in the home these units are placed, they can be outfitted with grow lights to replicate natural sunlight and encourage strong and healthy plant growth.
To complete your gardening-inspired Valentine’s gift for your loved one, throw in a themed gift basket filled with seed packets, a new pair of gardening gloves, and some hand tools like a new hand spade and trowel. Not only will your Valentine be surprised and amused by the originality and humor of your “hot and steamy” gift, but they’ll also be touched by your thoughtfulness and impressed that you took the time to choose a gift that fits with their hobbies. After all, chocolates and flowers can be given to anyone, but a greenhouse is something truly unique and interesting.

Question: How to get wax off of non-stick pot?
My boyfriend used my non-stick stock pot as a double boiler for his wax candle-making hobby (UGH!), and there is a thin wax coating on the inside of the pot. How do I get rid of wax? I hope my pot wasn’t ruined….
Answer: Boil water in it, the wax will come off and you can pore it out, then while it is still hot, add some more water and put dish soap in and wipe it out

Question: What can I get my 83 year old Father in Law for Christmas?
My Father in Law is 83 and he’s getting old. Poor thing! He had a mini stroke this year which slowed him down quite a bt. He has no hobbies. He sits and watches TV all day long. Christmas is coming and I have no clue what to get him. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. PS: He just got a new flat screen TV so that idea is taken. Also, he’s not technical at all! LOL
Answer: My grandpa is 75 and in not so good shape either.
For Christmas my fiance and I are getting him this really cool bird book. I know it sounds corny but you punch a number into a key pad on the side of book and it makes the sound of that particular bird. Since he can’t really enjoy the outdoors that much anymore we are trying to bring it to him. And each bird page has a blurb on where it lives and what it does – grandpa’s love educational stuff don’t they? I bought it at Costco if that helps.
Good Luck and have a good Christmas!
