Gymnastics

Gymnastics is a hobby as well as a competitive indoor sport.  Some people wouldn’t call gymnastics a hobby but if you really like what your doing it will make a good exercise and a great hobby to keep you fit.

Gymnastics can be done in a  gym, a P.E room and even at home. Gymnastics is a sport that needs the strength of your body as well as great coordination. To be a good gymnast takes a lot of practice. Most people start doing gymnastics when they are very young so that it is easier to build the right muscles for this hobby. If you start early, you can even enter gymnastic competitions.

Gymnastics for men and woman are very different. For men, you need to be very strong to do gymnastics. For women, you need to be more flexible with your body. Both require a lot of upper-body strength, and plenty physical coordination. The actual things you do ‘on the mat’ in gymnastics however are very different because men’s gymnastics tends to focus on strength while women focus on dexterity.

Most people know Gymnastics from watching the Olympics. Others are first exposed to it in high school, at least in larger high schools with many different sports programs. It is clearly not available to everyone, and even here in America it can be tough for anyone living outside of major cities to attend.

Where Gymnastics really turns into a full-fledged hobby is after the competitive years… Since youth is so important for gymnasts, most ‘retired’ (and gymnasts are often known to retire in their early 20s or sooner) gymnasts remain hobbyists for as long as they remain limber and strong.
