Question: why do parents always see your hobby as “wasting time”?

Mothers out there, the truth is; not all your son’s will be great at sports, so we won’t always be out ‘with the gang’ doing something
..but we still have to find ways to occupy ourselves.

I find it so annoying that every time I get into something my mom always tells me to slow down. first she used to bag on my drawing,

I’m still young 17, and I’m not some fat slob, i got a gym downstairs and use it 3 times a week.

You know it amazes me how mothers get fearful so quickly the moment you mention some girl’s name, yet when you start working on something like a larger drawing , or a model, they start complaining that you’re “wasting time”

Answer: My son (13) and husband (56) are BOTH avid model makers, and make scale model tanks, aircraft, Warhammer people (mostly the 13 YO!), and other stuff… We even kitted out our new conservatory a couple of years back with hobby space for them to make models and store all the modeling kits, tools, and paraphanalia, as well as cutting space for me to cut garments.

They also walk the hills. My son swims and plays rugby. He’s not really interested in any particular girls yet.

Nowt wrong with model making, lad. You go for it! If you want some justification, other than the usual guff about it keeping you out of trouble (it doesn’t, believe me! You probably know EXACTLY how to get glue and/or paint in the wrong place and get into trouble in one small, neatly executed move!), then start burbling about how it helps with fine motor control, concentration, research and design skills, materials specification (gotta have the right stuff for the job!), and project planning and costing…

My hobby? Rebuilding old sewing machines, My work involves using them. Maybe I’m sympathetic because I come from an engineering family on my mother’s side, and married an engineer!

Fashion Design Hobby

Question: For me, fashion design is a hobby, how do I make it more?

I love designing clothes…as a hobby along with acting. Right now acting is just a “side job” and I’d really like to focus on design. Are there any websites, e-mail addresses or helpful tips you can give me on making my line real?

What I DON’T need:
1. Don’t say fashion is a potential catfight career, I REALLy do NOT care in the slightest.
2. Don’t give me stupid answers…I want something real, something that can be backed up.
3. Cut to the chase. Please. You guys are helping make my dreams a reality!

Answer: hey sweeti. thats so awsome try going to like walmart or soemthing and buying a sketch book or something and take all your designs and put them in a portfolio try taking some pices of fabric and putting them on there so when you present your things they can see what type of fabric you are looking for.

is there any local modeling places around. around here there is john casablanca’s modeling and they have desing things there you can maybe take you portfolio with you and they can set up an interview with you and work something out

im sure you’ll find a way to make your dreams cometrue your a very determined girl and people will notice that.

Drafting Hobby Table

Question: Advice and opinions on this artist table as a gift?

I’m trying to find a good Christmas present that my boyfriend of 3 years will love and be able to use. Recently we moved into an apartment and couldn’t bring his ginormous table with us. He’s an artist (by hobby, but very good) and hasn’t been able to do any of his drawings. We’ve talked about finding a table for him, but to no avail. I thought I would see what I could do for Christmas and while I was looking, I came across a “drafting table”. Then I found a “fold away drafting table”. I’m not sure of the materials or how well they do so I thought I would get some advice since I can’t actually ask him.

Yes, that is a good table.
But look at what kind of art he does!
Pencil, watercolors, get curious and ask him!
Then do some searching, and ask your local stores for their art aisles!
