Snorkeling

Snorkeling is the practice of swimming with a mask and J-shaped tube to breath through, called a snorkel, which allows swimmers to breath while submerged, facing downwards at the top of any surface of water.

Snorkeling takes place all over the world wherever there is access to clear water, especially in the ocean where there is abundant marine life to view.

Unlike Scuba Diving, Snorkeling can be enjoyed by anyone without much training simply by using an inexpensive mask and snorkel. It’s main appeal is that it’s the least expensive and least difficult way to observe marine life.

The first occurrence of Snorkeling has been lost to time since this ancient hobby was very likely started up around the same time as the invention of the bamboo Tube as a breathing aid. Today you can find all sorts of snorkeling gear such as wetsuits, specialized multi-valve snorkels, Fins for your feet, & even vehicles to ride behind.

There is no well-known snorkeler’s association, since this hobby is so common that it’s often just thought of as ‘beach gear.’ To get started Snorkeling, simply swing by your local sporting goods store & grab a mask & snorkel that fit your face comfortably… Then head to you nearest body of water.
