What do I need to play chess as a hobby?

Chess is a very easy hobby to start. Technically you don’t need to have anything to play chess with others, especially if you join a chess club and they provide you with everything you need to play chess. However, if you want to get good at playing chess and beat other players then you might want to get a chess board of your own as well as chess books to learn different tactics and rules of playing chess. A stop clock might also come in handy so you know how much time you are spending on each move.
