Weightlifting is a hobby that many people take up to gain strength. Most weightlifting hobbyists happen to be men because gaining muscle mass usually is an attractive trait in men. Still, many women enjoy this hobby as well.
There are many ways to go about getting started with weightlifting. Most people join a health club or a gym to lift weights where you can find a large number of different weights, both freeweights and specialized machines that are much safer.
The classic way to do weightlifting is still with the large, heavy, metal bar. On either side of the metal bar, different weights with a hole in the middle are placed onto the bar. The person lays horizontally on a bench and pushes the bar from their chest until they reach the end of their arm-span. This is done repetitively until a certain count is reached or until the person becomes fatigued.
The end result is usually larger muscles that you can see within a few sessions. Very few hobbies could ever be as evidently self-improving as weightlifting is.
